Joe Johnson Obituary

Joe Johnson
Born: January 16, 1979 in Geneva, IL
Died: March 26, 2023 in Brighton, CO
Joseph P Johnson, 44, of Brighton Colorado died suddenly on March 26, 2023. Joe spent his childhood in Morris, Illinois, and was a 1997 graduate of Morris High School. Joe wasn't only a brother, a son, and a friend, he was the best person we knew and a great man. He was generous, kind, opinionated, and an overall benefit to humanity, and we are shattered by the senselessness of his death. Joe was a collector of all things that used motors or electronics or were just plain fun, and typically modified them all to his personal liking. His primary hobby was cars. His Beamer, his Lincoln, and trucks took precedence, but he was also in the process of rebuilding a 1969 VWBug and shared some of it on YouTube (Rusty the Ugly Bug). He was a family man and a true professional the tech world; considered an expert on safety systems and highly regarded in the field. One of his co-worders favorite memories is that when things got bad, Joe would be the one they'd go to for what to do. "Cakes and Pies" was his typical response, and the problem would get handled. In his time away from work and cars, he enjoyed shooting, manual bikes, dirt bikes, motorcycles, spending time with family, gaming, wheeling and dealing parts on Ebay, snowboarding, eating out, and traveling the US. Joe had a solid faith and a deep understanding of the world. He often got concerned about things out of his control, but most of the time, he had this amazing and incredible sense of humor. He could find something to laugh about (or make others laugh about) in just about every situation. The sound of his voice, his wisdom and his presence will be missed dearly. He was a patriot, and a proud American with a soft spot for the protection of women and children. Joe is survived by his mom, Jennifer O'Connor (Canon City, CO), his dad Greg Johnson (Morris, IL), his brother Robert Johnson, his sister Mija O'Connor, his niece Sephra O'Connor, his maternal grandmother, Joanne Munsterman, best friend Jillian, his Aunt Dee, Aunt Wendy and many more relatives and friends. A private memorial will take place on a mountain sometime this summer. Joe wouldn't want cards or flowers but we believe he would like to continue making a difference. If you'd like to be part of a fund that will be available to young people in need in his new home state of Colorado, donations can be made in the name of the DoubleJ (Joe Johnson) Fund and sent c/o Highpoint Bank, PO Box 1570, Canon City, CO 81215. We miss him.
