Thomas J. "Tom" Leiferman

1951 - 2023

Thomas "Tom" J. Leiferman, 72-year-old resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Rochester, MN, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023 at his home.

A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN, with Rev. Dave Sperstad officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior, from 10:00-11:00 A.M., on October 14, 2023, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel. Come casual and comfortable to celebrate Tom's life. Caring for Tom and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.

Tom was born on May 6, 1951, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN to John Matthew and Shirley Anne (Cieminski) Leiferman. Tom graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester, MN and Winona State University in Winona, MN. He started his career at Olmsted Federal Savings and Loan in Rochester, MN, and retired as the President of Community Federal Savings and Loan in Little Falls, MN.

Tom especially enjoyed playing and coaching sports. Tom was a beast on skates and a terror with a baseball bat, always willing to take time to play with the neighborhood kids. He continued to coach even after his own kids were grown. Tom had a special love of coaching ice mite hockey players as he felt they were young enough to see the coaches as iconic beings and the parents had yet to become over-involved emotionally. One could make the biggest difference at a young age.

Tom appreciated a variety of cultural history and was persistent in his efforts to preserve it. He also spent many years volunteering with church, Kiwanis, The Bingo Den, and coaching to name a few. In more recent times, being called "Grandpa" was his greatest joy.

Tom is survived by his children John (Erika), Hannah, Peter (Michele); grandchildren Liam, Sophia, Ezra, Asher; sister Barb (Jim) Schmitz; niece Sarah Schmitz; and many other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Shirley.

Special thanks to the medical staff of Little Falls and St. Cloud hospitals and the many clinics that helped Dad. Thank You to Dad's many friends; Byron, Dave, Bob, and Al, the support you provided these last few years was invaluable.
