David McDaniel Obituary

David A. "Dave" McDaniel, age 66, of Chesterville, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016, at the OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus following complications of a prolonged medical condition.

On October 3, 1949, Dave was born in Columbus, OH, the son of the late Morris and Dorothy (Moll) McDaniel.

A Vietnam Veteran, Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat and also completed his GED while serving.

After going steady for over four years, Dave married the love of his life, Peggy Carpenter, on August 15, 1970 in Columbus. They lovingly shared life's journeys as husband and wife the last 45 years.

Dave was employed by NAPA Auto Parts in Columbus. For the first 23 years he worked in the machine shop. Once his medical issues became more prevalent, he moved to cashier. He exhibited a strong work ethic and in 2015 retired after 45 years of service to the company.

When Dave was not working, he was more of a homebody. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and studying history. He would be glued to the History Channel for hours. He was rather inquisitive and enjoyed researching how things were made. Dave also enjoyed NASCAR, Ohio State Buckeye football, and was always captivated by girls fast pitch softball.

Above all, Dave was a family man. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and even delivered one of his grandsons at home. He had a good sense of humor and was always joking around. He also enjoyed getting into a good argument and pointing his finger.

Dave will be dearly missed by his wife, Peggy; two daughters: Jerri Franklin, Heather (Ronnie Mitchell II) VanHoose; six grandchildren: Skylar Franklin, Abbie Franklin, Addie (Alex) Tinkey, Shayla Franklin, Brock McDaniel, Andrew VanHoose; father-in-law, Kenneth Carpenter; a brother, John (Kathy) McDaniel; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tony Franklin; mother-in-law, Nellie Carpenter; and six siblings: Pat Cunningham, Martha McDaniel, Sharon Chambers, Bo McDaniel, Lawrence McDaniel, and Lois Rice.

Dave's family will greet friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016, with Minister Bob Franklin officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Active Duty U.S. Army, VFW Post 8054 and AmVets Post 87 will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.

Memorial contributions in Dave's honor may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America at PVA: Donation Processing Center, PO BOX 758532, Topeka, KS 66675-8532 or at www.pva.org.
