Devin L. Aumend, age 37, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, November 6, 2021, after suffering a pulmonary embolism.
She was born on October 27, 1984, in Mansfield, Ohio with Osteogenesis imperfecta, also called brittle bone disease. Although born with this disabling disease, it never limited her quest for knowledge, her personality, or her zest for life and belonging.
Devin graduated from Highland High School in 2003 as Valedictorian of her class, she received a 4-year scholarship from The Ohio State University, Marion branch, earned a Bachelor's Degree Psychology and graduated with Honors. She earned a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling, also with Honors from Wright State University.
She specialized in cognitive-behavioral therapy as well as individual and group counseling. Devin was hired by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities in October 2010 for what was originally a temporary position called a "Consumer Support Advocate." She educated people about the benefits and services available to them. She also provided assistance when people found it difficult to navigate the requirements of different government programs. Her superiors obviously saw what an asset she could be and hired her permanently a year later in October 2011 as a "Vocational Rehabilitation Assistant Counselor." She was promoted in June 2012 to "Vocational Counselor" and continued to grow in professional responsibilities. Devin was promoted to a "Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor" in May 2016.
Devin absolutely loved and adored her Siamese kitties and called them her furry children. She loved to travel even though travel could be quite a challenge for her. Loved spending time in the pool and doing backyard barbecues with friends, and was an avid OSU football fan.
She enjoyed all kinds of activities and get-togethers and going out to dinner with friends, which given the past two years has been few and far between, but she appreciated them all so very much. She was brave, intelligent, strong, and independent. She was an amazing young woman with a beautiful soul who touched many lives and will be forever remembered in a countless number of hearts.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved mother and dedicated caregiver Denise (Fishburn) Aumend of Marengo, her father Dana Aumend of Marengo, uncle Dan "Boone" (Debbie) Fishburn, cousins Travis (Sara) Fishburn and Renae (Daniel) Schwartz.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Walter "Jack" and Karen Fishburn, and Janice Aumend.
In keeping with her wishes, immediate public services will not be observed, details for a memorial gathering may be announced in the coming months. Arrangements have been entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation (OIF) https://oif.org/donations/donate/ or Shriner's Hospital for Children, Love to the Rescue https://lovetotherescue.org/
