MOUNT GILEAD - Donald Joseph White, age 87 of Mount Gilead, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on September 27, 1938, to Laurence A. and Ethel Marie (Campbell) White in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Mount Gilead High School and graduated in 1958. He married the love of his life, Loverna Irene Wells, on October 24, 1964, and have spent the last 61 years together, never one without the other. He worked for Geyer's Grocery for 38 years as Vice President, from which he retired in 2004.
Don was a family man, and always made time for his wife, children and grandchildren. He attended any and all sports or school events for his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, stating that if he had to go somewhere without her, he wasn't going. He was an avid golfer, always planning and organizing the next golf outing, most notably, the Geyer's Golf Outing's. Golfing with his sons and grandsons were some of his favorite memories. He was also a long-time member of Sacred Hearts Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council. The OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Guardians, and Cavs had his support, through every win (and loss). He will be remembered for being an outstanding husband, dad, grandad, and great grandad.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Loverna White; children: Mark White and Donna (Eric) Kill; grandchildren: Matthew (Kayla) Kill, Joshua (McKenzie) Kill, Daniel (Jessica) Kill, Kyle White, Casey White, Haley White, Lacey White, and Zachery White; great-grandchildren: Cooper Kill and Connor Kill; sisters: Margaret Franks and Lillian Niese; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence A. and Ethel M. White; his son, Scott White; brother, Laurence White; sister-in-law, Judy White; and brother-in-law's: Noel Franks and Robert Niese.

Although I have not seen Don in many years, I have fond memories of doing things with him while I lived in Mt. Gilead. We played football together at MGHS. Later on in the 1960s, we worked together at my oil & gas mapping company. He and Laverna were married during that era. I believe he went to work with Geyer´s when the Morrow County oil boom played out. I consider Don (Whitey) to have been a very good friend, athlete, and a very reliable, honest and humorous guy. May he rest in peace now.
