Glen Ruhl

Glen G. Ruhl Sr., age 74, of Mount Gilead, passed away at his home Friday morning, December 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

On February 23, 1942, Glen was born in Mount Gilead, OH, the son of the late Budd Bryan and Myrtle Belle (Kidwell) Ruhl. He graduated from Chesterville High School in the Class of 1960.

In January 1961, Glen enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He spent most of his time on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and received his honorable discharge in January 1965.

Glen married the love of his life, Mary Ann Dawson on April 18, 1970 in Mansfield, OH. They shared the last 46 wonderful years together as husband and wife.

For many years, Glen worked as an electrician at H.P.M. in Mount Gilead and later transferred to North Carolina where he continued his career with various companies. He was also an Auxilary police officer in Mount Gilead from 1977 – 1981.

Glen was quite the pro tinkering with things in his garage. He always found ways to build something out of nothing. He loved riding his Gold Wing motorcycle and racing his 1936 Ford Coupe. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and country music.

Glen was a family man, enjoying traveling with and spending time with family and friends. If there was a "Daddy of the Year" award, he may have just won it every year.

Glen will be dearly missed by his two daughters: Candy Richardson of Southport, NC, Rosie (Tommy) Whitman of Stony Point, NC; three grandchildren: Katherine (James) Hardee, Nicholas (Amelia) Richardson, Michael Richardson; a brother, Gene (Marlene) Ruhl of Mount Gilead; a sister, Rowina Whipple of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, 40 years ago to the day of his death, Glen Guy Ruhl Jr; and a sister, Barbara Alm.

Glen's family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, with Celebrant Marvin Hintz officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the active duty U.S. Navy, VFW Post 8054 and AmVets Post 87 will follow in North Fork Cemetery.
