CARDINGTON - Kenneth Lee Rush, a beloved brother, uncle, and a member of the Cardington community, passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 80. Born in Marion, Ohio, on June 13, 1943, to the late Henry D. and Josephine M. (Seiter) Rush.
Kenny graduated from Cardington-Lincoln High School in 1961. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, spending 11 months in Vietnam, until his honorable discharge on August 5, 1971. Throughout his life, Kenny displayed unwavering commitment to his country and community. He went on to work for Erie Lackawanna Railway, Erie Railway and Conrail Railway for 30 years as a conductor and later worked at Wyandot Inc. for 25 years. Kenny was a lifetime member of the Cardington American Legion Post 97, the V.F.W. Post 8054, Farm Bureau as well as a member of Gleaners, Chester Arbor.
He was an active lifetime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon, council member, greeter, usher, sang in the choir, rang the bell on Sundays, helped with maintenance around the church and helped with the funeral dinners. Kenny was active in 4-H with his sheep. He was raised on a farm and enjoyed helping his father on the farm. In his later years he had 2 gardens, one was for his family and neighbors. The second he would take tomatoes and other vegetables to his church family as well as giving them to the quilting ladies. He enjoyed flea markets, garage sales and going to the county fairs for the horse races. Kenny's memory will be cherished by his sisters Nancy (Tedd) Walters and Patty (Steve) Kirk both of Cardington, as well as his nieces and nephews: Kyle (Kelly) Kirk of Delaware, and Kory (Char) Kirk and their children Mia and Evan of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 336 W. Main Street, Cardington, Ohio 43315 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Steven Dennis officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery.
