Marvin Roach Obituary

Marvin "Bud" Roach, age 77, of Morrow County, Galion, passed away Friday evening, July 25, 2014 in his home following a short illness.

He was born October 29, 1936 in Chesterville, the son of Marvin Waldo and Marie A. (Ward) Roach.

On November 26, 1954 he was united in marriage to Shirley Lytle, who preceded him in death in 2009.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Marvin served nearly four years between Korea and Vietnam. Stationed in Oklahoma, Marvin was honorably discharged in 1958.

Marvin worked as a machinist for Mansfield Screw Machine, as a security guard at HPM in Mt. Gilead, and more recently Renzenberger as a driver before his retirement just over four years ago.

A lifelong Morrow County resident, he was a past member of the Galion Moose Lodge 303. Handy, Marvin enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers and fixing machinery. He was also a talented woodworker making birdhouses, wishing wells, napkin holders, and jewelry boxes. He also enjoyed fishing and some small game hunting.

Described as laid back and easy going, it took a lot to rattle Bud. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by a son Harold Roach of Morrow County, two brothers and a sister-in-law Doug and Ruth Roach of Mt. Gilead, and Grover Roach of Mt. Gilead; five nephews, and six nieces, great nieces and great nephews and a great great nephew.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bud was preceded in death by a brother Teddy Roach and two sisters-in-law Marty and Mary Lou Roach.

The Roach family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 4-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will begin at 7pm. Pastor Ed Colegrove will officiate. Military honors, conducted by American Legion Post #535, will follow on the grounds of the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in Oak Grove Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Roach Family may be made at the funeral home.

Bud was a quiet but friendly person. He worked hard and was a good father to Harold. He was a wonderful cousin and my family and I will miss him.

Please accept my deepest sympathies. Bud was my brother-in-law for 27 years. His wife and my husband were brother and sister. I always enjoyed his dry wit and sense of humor. Sending prayers.
