Some look at the glass as half empty. To Patti, the glass was always half full. She was a selfless and compassionate woman, fully devoted to her family and friends. She possessed the heart of a servant and exemplified the term "class." The world lost an exceptional woman Tuesday evening, July 5, 2016, when Patricia "Patti" Denman passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
On November 27, 1946, Patti was born in Galion, OH, the daughter of Esther D. (Linn) Chapman and the late Carl E. Chapman. She graduated from Highland High School in the Class of 1964.
While in 6th grade, Patti wrote a note to a cute boy in the 7th grade. She asked her best friend to deliver the note to him. That strapping young lad was David E. Denman. Dave thought Patti was also cute and they began dating. That was the beginning of a beautiful friendship and love that has stood the test of time. They were married September 25, 1964 at Harmony United Methodist Church. Along life's wonderful journey, the last 51 years, they raised two children and also enjoyed watching the grandchildren grow.
A woman of great faith, Patti was an active, long time member of the Harmony United Methodist Church. The title may not have been official, but she was the "Social Coordinator" of the church. She served on several committees and was continually there to assist with any meal at the church. She always made her cookies and even baked the communion bread for Sunday service.
Throughout the years, Patti worked many customer service jobs in the community and retired from The Kroger Co. following 13 years as a meat clerk.
Patti's true love was her role as a homemaker, taking care of her family and friends. Every holiday, birthday or other family oriented event was held at her home. She cherished cooking for others and time in the kitchen was her therapy. She had an extensive collection of cookbooks that were sometimes spread all over the house searching for that one exact recipe. If any of the children or grandchildren needed an idea or recipe of something to make, she was their go to gal. Her television was often tuned to Food Network or any other cooking channel for inspiration.
Patti adored attending sporting events for her children and then her grandchildren. Many years were spent in the bleachers at Highland High School, encouraging and cheering them on through all of the wins and losses. The other spectators at the games hoped Patti would be there to share a batch of freshly baked cookies.
Wherever Patti was, she was taking care of others. When she visited her mom in the nursing home she ended up helping out, oftentimes decorating and assisting with Bingo. Even as Patti's health failed, she never lost her servant's heart. She continued to make meals for everyone and always had time to send cards.
Patti will be dearly missed by her husband, Dave, of Mount Gilead; her son, Rich (Brenda) Denman of Mount Gilead; her daughter, Kendra (Larry) Daniels of Mount Gilead; three grandchildren: Bristan (Mike Bohland) Denman of Lexington, Payton (Nathan Scully) Denman of Gahanna, Brogie (Jason Ratliff) Denman of Mount Gilead; her mother, Esther Chapman of Chesterville; a brother, Dennis Chapman of Mount Gilead; special friends, Harry and Phyllis Griffith of Chesterville; numerous nieces and nephews; countless friends; and Patti and Dave's special furry companion, Gabby.
In addition to her father, Patti was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Esther Chapman and Patricia Taylor; and a brother-in-law, Charles Denman.
Patti's family will greet friends from 2 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate her life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016 with Pastor Dan Wilson, Pastor Jeannie Winters and Associate Pastor Matt Mailey officiating. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I knew Patti when we lived in Chestervill, she was-such a sweet person. I had the opportunity to talk to her a couple months ago, what a great conversation we had. We laughed about all the times that we went through and reminenest about everyone we knew . She was such a special person, I know when we all think of her we will smile!
Rest in Peace Patti
