2021
Steve Ray Mangrum, age 67, of Iberia, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Monday morning, July 5, 2021, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center following a long battle with cancer.
On October 16, 1953, Steve was born at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, a son of the late Louis Moore and Mary Elizabeth (Woodard) Mangrum. He graduated from Northmor High School in the Class of 1971.
Steve married his best friend and love of his life, Paula Jean Moore, in Mount Gilead on August 17, 1988. All together they shared over 34 wonderful years side by side.
Steve worked at Arundale/Core in Mount Gilead since the age of 17. He began on the floor and worked his way all of the way up to plant manager. He provided 38 years of hard work and dedication to them until his retirement in 2008.
Steve was a man of faith; a member of the body of Christ. He attended the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church.
Steve enjoyed listening to music on YouTube. He always has just one more song for you to listen to with him.
Steve loved sports and had a very competitive spirit within himself. His athletic ability earned him the nickname "Gunner." He was a champion basketball, baseball and softball player. As a young man, he tried out for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also enjoyed bowling and golf. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. If there are sports in heaven he has surely joined all of the teams.
Steve will be dearly missed by his wife, Paula; two children: Mason Mangrum, Jeanie (Cody) Van Dever; a brother, Carney Mangrum; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Mangrum; and a sister, Sandra Mangrum.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Steve's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church, 3055 State Route 95, Edison, OH 43320, with Pastor Ed Colegrove officiating.
