Stephen Preston Obituary

Stephen Randall Preston 1961 – 2025 Stephen Randall Preston, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 20th, 2025, at Roper Hospital after a long battle with kidney disease, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will never be forgotten. Steve was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on February 25th, 1961, to Ron and Carol Preston. He was one of three Preston boys and shared a close bond with his brothers, Ronny (Tara) Preston and Ricky (Miranda) Preston. His devotion to family was evident in every aspect of his life, especially in the joyful moments he spent with his nieces and nephews-Brittany , Matt (Caity), Christian (Miriam), Casey, Michael, and Miles-great nieces and nephew Lilleigh, Logan, Abigail, and Victoria. whom he adored deeply. Steve was preceded in death by his father, mother, and a niece, Megan. A 1983 graduate of Georgia Tech, Steve earned his bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering before beginning his professional career with General Electric. He later found his true calling in construction, becoming a certified contractor with a passion for restoring historic homes in Charleston, South Carolina. His craftsmanship and dedication brought new life to the city's cherished architecture, leaving a lasting mark on the community he loved. Steve was a man of many passions. He found peace and joy in nature-surfing the waves, casting a line, perfecting his golf swing, and tending to his garden. More than anything, he cherished time at the beach surrounded by family. His infectious smile, contagious laugh, and kind heart made him a light in the lives of all who knew him. He was not only a loving brother and uncle but also a loyal friend who touched countless lives with his warmth and generosity. One of Steve's closest friends and ultimately his caregiver Jerry Hartz remembers him as a great friend to all. His waitresses, nurses, clients and their children were some of Steve's favorite people. Steve will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his love of the ocean and outdoors, and the joy he brought to every gathering. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A celebration of life drop- in will be held Saturday the 23rd of August at 3pm by the family at 720 8th Street, West Folly Beach, SC
