Eugene T. Murphy

Eugene T. Murphy Proud Marine, Semper Fi CANANDAIGUA - Eugene T. Murphy, age 78, formerly of Victor and Manchester, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Clifton Springs Nursing Home. He is survived by two daughters, Marianne (James) Lennon of South Bristol, and Marguerite "Peggy" (Larry) Sutton of Shortsville; son, Brian (Christine) Murphy of Canandaigua; three grandsons, Sean and Matthew Sutton, and Nicholas Murphy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred (McCarthy) Murphy in 2001; and sister Mary June Ellis in 2005. Mr. Murphy was born in Canandaigua, and was the son of John and Marguerite (Figenscher) Murphy. He graduated from St. Mary's School in 1944 and Canandaigua Academy in 1948, where he was an outstanding athlete. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving from 1950 to 1953. Mr. Murphy worked as a self employed plumber for many years (Murphy Plumbing and Heating). In 1990, he retired from B. Forman Co. in Rochester, after 15 years there. Mr. Murphy was a member of American Legion Post 256 for 58 years. He was also a member of Marine Corps League Memorial Day Detachment #468, in Waterloo. Friends may call Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. His funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment with military honors will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Victor.
