George Kay Obituary

GEORGE C. “Grumpy� Kay CANANDAIGUA - George C. “Grumpy� Kay, age 73, passed away at home on Saturday, June 25, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret “Peggy� Kay; four children, Harvey (Nancy) Kay, Brady (Brenda) Kay, Korinna (Charles) Roach and Shannon Kay (David Nemitz); 11 grandchildren, Matt, Martha, Bradley, Bryce, Alicia, Elizabeth, Tara, Stephanie, Aaron, Kathryn and Shaelyn; and was the second father to many. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Kay. Mr. Kay was born in Canandaigua and was the son of George and Margaret (Miller) Kay. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s School, class of 1956; Canandaigua Academy, class of 1960; and Rochester Institute of Technology. Mr. Kay worked as a truck driver for many years. He was a former 4-H tractor safety instructor; a lifetime member of the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department; and co-founding member of the Yarger Memorial Golf Tournament. Mr. Kay was a former Town of Canandaigua councilman. He was an avid camper and loved spending time with his family and friends around a campfire. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. His memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Pine Bank Cemetery, Cheshire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, NY 14456; Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department, 4285 Route 21, Canandaigua, NY 14424; or F.F. Thompson Hospital, Cardiac Rehabilitation Department, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.

Condolences to the entire Kay family, I will miss George deeply, I feel very fortunate that I was allowed to have George be a part of mine and my family's life. There's been another piece of my heart broken with the loss of George. God Speed George, we'll meet again in a much better place.

George, I remember so many good memories especially when I was a kid babysitting for you and Peg. I wish I could have seen you one last time. We will miss you so much.. Remember to make some corn on the cob up there. Keep an eye on me down here You will be greatly missed.. We love you!!
