George Park Obituary

George A. Park Jr. CANANDAIGUA - George A. Park Jr., age 69, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 2, 2015, with his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Rosemary (Cutri) Park, by his side. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Along with his wife, he is survived by three children, Robert (Gloribel) Park, Michael (Laurie) Park and Linda (Efrain) Alcorta; seven grandchildren, Victoria, Robert, Christopher, Kathleen, Annabelle, Cruz and Olivia; brother, James W. (Carolyn) Park; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his precious angel daughter, Licia Park, in 1984. George was born in Canandaigua and was the son of George A. Park Sr. and Ruth (Carey) Park. He was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, class of 1963. George was a graduate of the University of Rochester, class of 1967, where he was a member of the Navy ROTC program, Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and captain of the University's basketball team (Team of the Decade.) George began his newspaper career with the Gannett company. He was the assistant publisher of the Daily Messenger from 1980 to 1988 and was the publisher of the Finger Lakes Times from 1988 to 1998. He finished his career as a director for the New York State Workers' Compensation Board, retiring in 2007. An accomplished athlete throughout his life, George bowled several 300 games and 800 series and was inducted into the Canandaigua Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He excelled at and loved the game of golf and was a member of the Canandaigua, Geneva, Clifton Springs and CenterPointe country clubs. George was a member of St. Mary's Church, Knights of Columbus (4th degree), Elks Club and Rotary Club, all in Canandaigua. He was a past president of the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce and a board member for the Catholic Courier newspaper and the Granger Homestead. George served as an alderman-at-large for the city of Canandaigua from 1976 to 1979. His memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424; or CURE Childhood Cancer Association, 200 Westfall Road, Rochester, NY 14620. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., Canandaigua.
