Lucy Case Obituary

Lucy (Taylor) Gilbert Case CANANDAIGUA - Lucy (Taylor) Gilbert Case, age 95, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014, surrounded by loving family members. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her four children, Joseph (Gail) Gilbert, Christine (Gary) Henehan, Lewis (Susan) Gilbert and John (Nancy) Gilbert; three stepchildren, Robert Case, Diane Case and Lori Stahlecker; 10 grandchildren, Gregory, Evan, Alex, Ethan, Jessica and Casey Gilbert, Brooke Lupton, Jennifer Wolf, Lindsay Pennise and Michael Henehan; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte (Taylor) Scott; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph B. Gilbert, in 1972; second husband, Robert "Rodge" Case, in 2010; grandson, Scott Gilbert, in 2001; and two brothers, Justus Taylor lll and Kenneth Taylor Sr. The daughter of Vinnette and Harriet (Howard) Taylor, Lucy was born on the family farm in Wyalusing, Pa. After graduating from Wyalusing High School in 1935, she attended Elmira College and later graduated from Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. She then worked in New York City for several years before marrying Joseph Gilbert in 1942. She and her family lived in Ithaca, N.Y. and Newark before moving to Canandaigua in 1952. In addition to raising four children, Lucy worked at Cornell Cooperative Extension for many years. She was widowed in 1972. She later married Rodge Case in 1985. Lucy was a longtime member and former deacon of First Congregational Church in Canandaigua; a former board member of Clark Manor House; and a member of the Travelers Club, Canandaigua Country Club and several bridge groups. Lucy enjoyed traveling later in life, especially with her sister Charlotte Scott, Charlotte's husband Cecil and other family members. Her principal focus was always family and she derived great joy from the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lucy was always a lady: intelligent, graceful, stylish, loyal, energetic and dedicated to others. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, at First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, 58 N. Lucy will be missed by all of those who knew her. A graceful lady would be an understatement, she was wonderful in every way.

Our condolences go out to the entire family.
