Roberta Aasness Obituary

Roberta "Bert" (Andrews) Aasness
Canandaigua - Roberta "Bert" (Andrews) Aasness, age 79, was born on a snowy night and left us on a snowy day, December 19, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Aasness in 2002; and sister, Elaine Andrews in 2003. Bert is survived by her brother, William (Donna) Andrews; good friend, Edward Frost; and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bert was born in Canandaigua and was the daughter of Frank and Lucille (Tiffany) Andrews. She was a farm girl who attended a one-room school house on Andrews Rd. After three years, Bert moved on to the Canandaigua Elementary School, graduating as President of her 8th grade class. She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, class of 1959, graduating 4th in her class. Bert loved baseball with a passion and wished the Academy had a girls' baseball team. She was a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Although she did well in high school, Bert wanted nothing to do with more education and soon enlisted in the US Army, where she served faithfully and honorably. She served from 1966-1969 active duty and was stationed in California and Illinois, later serving in the Reserves. While in Illinois, she met her future husband Ray, an Army Specialist and discovered she had a passion for something other than baseball. They were married in Waukegan, IL on April 16, 1969 and shortly thereafter moved to Canandaigua, where they lived for a number of years. Together they operated a small business selling sports-related paraphernalia. After Ray's death, Bert moved to 40 Wilcox Lane.
Services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario Co. Humane Society, 2976 Co. Rd. 48, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.

Aunt Roberta shared in many wonderful get togethers while she and my Uncle Ray resided in Nevada. RIP dear Roberta.

My aunt was a huge 49ers fan. She was so much fun working with at Crosman Airguns. Her laugh was hard to not join in with. Mirth all over the place. She sure did come from good people.
