Betty Lynne Dickerson from Midland Texas passed away into her Lord and Savior's loving arms on September 8, 2024, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by family and her beloved dog "Ginger". Betty was a dedicated and influential leader within her community.
Betty was born May 18, 1941, in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1959. During her high school years, she was a member of the drill team, student council and Pan-American forum. She also was a representative and model for the Neiman-Marcus Lanz show and served as a Woodrow Wilson Sweetheart. Elvis Presley became her idol after attending one of his concerts.
In 1964, she married the love her life James T Dickerson. She was a devoted wife and mother. She worked volunteering and serving sexual assault victims for Rape Crisis Center and later became Executive Director. After retirement she continued to serve on the board. Her career was marked by a profound commitment to advocacy and support for those in need. As the Executive Director of the Midland Rape Crisis Center, Betty was instrumental in establishing several key programs including the Children's Advocacy Center, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Program through Midland Memorial Hospital and the District Attorney's office, the Being Safe Program through MISD, and a Dog Therapy Program at the Center for sexual assault victims and families. Her leadership also facilitated the purchase of the current home for the Midland Rape Crisis Center and Children's Advocacy Center. She developed crucial alliances between sexual assault victims, the Midland Police Department, Midland County Sheriff's office, Child Protective Services and the District Attorney's Office, greatly enhancing support networks for victims.
A devout member of the First Baptist Church in Midland, Betty's faith was a fundamental cornerstone of her life. Her love for the Lord, family and friends was immeasurable. Her hobbies and interests were varied and rich; she was a notable figure in the bridge community, serving on the board of the Allison Bridge Center and teaching the game for over 35 years. Recognized as a tournament bridge player, she was the youngest to achieve the rank of Diamond Life Master. Betty received the Golden Deeds Award in 2017 from the Exchange Club for her community service. She had a passion for cooking, reading, and needlepoint were complemented by her dedicated volunteer work and fundraising for the Lone Star Animal Sanctuary. She was also an avid football and baseball fan. She enjoyed following the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and Texas Rangers.
Betty is survived by her children, Kyle Dickerson and his wife Carol of Midlothian Texas, Kathy Bolin Pfannenstiel and her husband Gary of Midland Texas, Grandchildren, Jennifer Bolin McMorries and her husband Justin of Midland Texas. Bryan Bishop and his wife Lisa, Shelly Clements and her husband Michael, Kacee Bishop and his wife Rita all from Midlothian, Texas. She adored great granddaughters, Taylor Bolin and Baylee Anne of Midland Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles D. and Marguerite D. Blandford, her husband James T. Dickerson, and her sister Carol Anne Blandford Patterson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Midland Rape Crisis Center or Lone Star Animal Sanctuary. Betty's legacy of compassion, leadership, and community service will be remembered by all who knew her.
A graveside committal will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 11 AM at Resthaven Memorial Park with Pastor Bill Billett officiating, followed by a light reception at Ellis Funeral Home. Please visit ellisfunerals.com to leave online condolences.
