Cody Barton Obituary

GORDON - Cody Chet Barton, 20, of Gordon passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009. Services will be 1 pm Thursday in the First Baptist Church in Gordon. Graveside services will be 4 pm at Sipe Springs Cemetery in Comanche County. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, Texas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM.

Cody was born on April 18, 1988 in Midland Texas to Kelly Barton and Melanie (Barton) Green. He attended Gordon High School where he was very active in athletics. Cody was Homecoming King in 2006 and Mr. Gordon High School for 2007. Cody graduated from Western Texas College making the Dean's list with a 4.0 grade average. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and making his friends and family laugh. Most important to him was taking care of Caden, his son. Cody was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gordon. He also worked as a roustabout for the oilfield.

Cody is survived by his son Caden Barton, his parents; Kelly and Dee Dee Barton of Gordon, Melanie and Rodney Green of Midland, sisters Katie Jo Barton of Midland and Brandi Smith of Gordon, a brother Ben Smith of Gordon, grandparents; George and Mary Beth Barton of Midland, Jim and Carolyn Ratliff of Rising Star, Tommy and Glenda Tomerlin of Midland, Willie L. Green of Midland, great-grandparents; Juanice Cook of Seymour, J. E. and Dean Abbott of Mineral Wells and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family.
