Interment will follow at American Heritage Cemetery.
Diane was born on January 9, 1944 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Robert and Louise May. Diane graduated from Phillips High School in Phillips, Texas in 1962. After graduating from high school, Diane worked at C. R. Anthony's Department Store where she met Jim Powell. She married Jim Powell on June 2, 1962, and together they had two children: Robin Powell Damron (Rodney) and Keith Powell (Joyce). She also worked as the church secretary at the Jal Church of Christ. Additionally, she worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company in Jal, New Mexico. When the family moved to Dalhart, Texas Diane went to work for Energas which later became Atmos Energy. When Jim accepted a manager job with Anthony's in Midland, TX, Diane transferred to Atmos Energy in Midland, TX where she subsequently retired in 2007.
After retiring from Atmos Energy, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She and Gwen Lorenz did four different routes each week. In 2024 she received Volunteer of the Year from Meals on Wheels. They not only spent their time together helping the community of Midland by taking meals to shut-ins, but they also volunteered for many church activities. They helped coordinate many retreats for the ladies of the church as well as other functions which were designed to edify the ladies and help them to grow more spiritually. They would often take trips together to scout out speakers for various ladies retreats. They even took some just for fun.
Diane and her husband Jim were faithful members of the various churches of Christ in the different communities in which they lived. He often served as a deacon, and she was a faithful deacon's wife serving the church in many capacities. She also helped teach in the Bible classes and the babies in the church's cradle roll department. Her artistic skills helped to decorate several rooms within the church building. She was a great role model as she served with humility and love for Jesus Christ.
Diane was a loving, kind, and helpful wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She attended many school activities, sporting events for her children, grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her friends and sisters in Christ; they often played cards, ate together, went to various entertainment events, and burned up phone wires talking about a number of things. She never failed to spend time on the phone encouraging her friend Jackie.
Diane is survived by her loving children Robin and Keith. Along with leaving them behind, she leaves her grandchildren: Eric, Ryan, Kayleigh (Alex), Brittany (Austin), Brandon, and Maddison. She also leaves her great-grandchildren: Cayson, Cade, Emmy, Harper, Braxton, Beckham, Evan, and Piper. In addition to these she leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Diane was preceded in death by her husband Jim Powell, her parents Robert and Louise May, her stepfather Harold Harris, and her brothers Don May and Tom May. The family would like to express their gratitude to Gentiva Hospice of Midland, Doctor Enakpene, Doctor Ansari, Doctor Gil, Doctor Richardson, Bailey Bergman, Martin County Home Health, Martin County Rehab and Hospital, Midland Memorial Hospital staff, and the Westside Church of Christ for their support and care.
