Doris Eloise Broussard Covington

Doris Covington Obituary

Doris Eloise Broussard Covington, 83, went to be with our Lord on September 3, 2007. She was born October 29, 1923 to Effie Rush Broussard and Desire Louis Broussard, Jr., in Winnie, Texas. She and her family later moved to Center Point, Texas, where she finished high school. She attended the University of Texas for one year, eventually moving to Washington D.C. where she worked at the Pentagon.

She married Jerry Covington on July 8, 1943, while Jerry was serving in the Navy. When Jerry left for sea duty, Eloise moved back to Austin, Texas, to live with her family. In 1945, after Jerry's tour of duty, he was hired by Humble Oil Company, and he and Eloise moved to Midland. Having grown up during the swing era, Jerry and Eloise loved to dance to the big bands, and were a fixture at all the big events in Midland, as well as traveling around the world to enjoy their love of dancing. They both loved to travel, and made many trips to Europe, New Zealand and more. Jerry was the captain, Eloise was the rudder.

Eloise loved her Lord, her church, her family and everyone around her. She spent her entire life practicing that love. Those who knew her were always uplifted by her smile, her happy disposition and never ending love of God.

Eloise was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her parents, Desire Louis and Effie Broussard, and her brother, Desire Louis "Bruce" Broussard III. She is survived by her loving sister, Juana Morse, five children, Renee Brunson, Gary Covington, Kyle Covington and his wife Sheila of Nashville, Tennessee, Lisa Graham and her husband Alan of Midland, and Kirk Covington of Burbank, California. She lived to know and love 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church of Midland. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Aaron Close, Sean Covington, Daniel Covington, Scott Noyes, Daniel Graham, and Josh Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Victor Brown, Laddie Long, Mike Vandenboom, Burgess Covington and Oliver Covington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Music Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Texas, Midland, Texas 79701 or the charity of one's choice. Gary, I was very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. Ginny Lang told me. Sounds like you have some of your parents genes - loving to dance. Enjoyed the stories you told me about your family in Louisiana and Texas.

Eloise was a wonderful influence on my life for more than 25 years. Her constant support and prayers will never be forgotten, in addition to her loyalty to the Trinity Presbyterian choir. What a special life! God bless all you Covington's - I share your loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Covington family during this difficult time. My memories of the Covingtons go back to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Midland where they and the other close families were a huge influence in my spiritual development. I treasure those memories and will reflect on them with fondness.
