Ernest Henry Groppe Jr.

Mr. Henry Groppe died in Houston on March 26, a young 98 years old.

Henry is best known for his deep wisdom, his progressive spirit, and his zeal to change the world.

Professionally, Henry is as a partner and founder of Groppe, Long & Littell, a Houston-based consulting firm internationally recognized for its accurate forecasts of major changes in oil and gas. Henry's legendry career is celebrated in the Midland-based Permian Basin Petroleum Museum with a special exhibit.

A founder of numerous companies in the energy and space industries, he also served as a director of Transco Energy, Tom Brown Inc., and First Energy Finance. He was a charter member of the Texas Governor's Energy Advisory Council, a director of the US Energy Assoc and chairman of the Petrochemical Group in Washington DC.

He and his wife Carol, were committed to making the world a better place, through a long and storied involvement in the non-profit community as board and founding members of institutions involved in the arts, human relations and higher education including Chairman of the University of Texas Cockrell School of Engineering Advisory Board, and vice-chairman of the UT Energy Institute Advisory Board.

Henry was eating tofu and brown rice long before most people had even considered the effects of diet on disease. Co-founder of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute, researching the effects of diet and lifestyle on heart disease, prostate cancer and Alzheimer's. Founder of Southwest Health Technology, dedicated to neurofeedback, an alternative treatment for brain-related maladies and enhanced performance.

A member of Emerson Unitarian Church of Houston, Henry fully lived the tenets of his faith- the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Henry wore a hat every day. He never retired. And he stayed in touch with friends around the world. He left the world, the way he entered it, a pace ahead of the rest of us.

A Memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Emerson Unitarian Church 1900 Bering Drive, Houston 77057.
