Frances Lewis Obituary

Frances Marie Barnett Lewis, 74, of Midland, TX was born on July 16, 1937, in Laurel, Mississippi, and went to be with her Lord and Maker on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. She was devoted to Christ, her husband, children, grandchildren, and anyone that she came into contact with. She was the daughter of Lester and Hazel Barnett. From early childhood she was baptized and attended the Church of God in Laurel, Mississippi, where her father was a music minister and whom she strived to be like. She attended Myrick High School and Jones County Junior College, where she received an Associate's Degree in Business Administration. She loved life, she loved going, she loved people, and she never met a stranger. In the fall of 1962 she met and fell in love with Kermit Lewis while working at Dixie Electric. They married on April 5, 1963, in Laurel, Mississippi, and they were blessed with three children, Perry, Kim, and Tammy. In the early years of their marriage they were transferred to several cities following Kermit's job before returning and settling in Kermit's hometown of Midland, TX. Besides being a devoted mother and housewife, Frances had a working career outside the home at West Texas Welders Supply and Midland Farmers Co-op. She retired at the age of 60 after working 15 years at the Co-op and devoted her time to her grandchildren and running the farm. Not only did she devote her time for her own children and grandchildren, Frances also opened her home and heart to numerous children who she considered her own and they considered her as a mother and grandmother. She lovingly became known as "Mamaw" to all. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Hazel Barnett; in-laws, Bill and Lois Roush and Leonard Lewis; daughter-in-law, Shelly Lewis; and brother-in-law, Sonny Grant of Mississippi. She is survived by her husband, Kermit Lewis of Midland, TX; son, Perry Lewis and his children, Ben, Blair, and Bryce Lewis, all of Midland; daughter, Kim and her husband, Tony Foster and their children, Kelsey, Kade, and Kourtney Foster, all of Midland; daughter, Tammy and her husband, Kevin Shelton and their daughter, Mollie Shelton of Hico, TX; her sister, Marge Grant and her son, Duane Rogers of Mississippi; and her sister, Carolyn and her husband, Harry Collins and their daughter, Tanya Bounds from Mississippi. She is also survived by a number of great nieces and nephews. First off we would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. We also like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Trista Robertson; Maryland Cantu; and Priscilla Campos. Thanks to all of her doctors and everyone with Hospice that loved her. Visitation will be held 2pm-4pm, Sunday April 29, 2012 at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10a.m. Monday April 30, 2012 at Kellview Baptist Church. Internment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you make donations to Home Hospice, 901 W. Missouri Midland, Texas 79701 or your favorite charity.

When I think of my many memories surrounding Frances, I have to smile. She was so warm, caring, and a cherished friend. I loved to listen to her play the piano and also loved to hear her sing in that beautiful tenor voice! Our loss here on earth is certainly heaven's gain. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Love and prayers to Kim, Tammy, and the rest of the family.

Dear Frances,

It was a great honor and privilege to be apart of your life. We had a lot of great times together riding around town going shopping, feeding the ducks, getting your hair and nails done, and driving through neighborhoods looking at houses and decorations. It didn't matter that to me that you couldn't remember doing all those things because for that moment you were happy. I just loved you so much and I know that you loved me too. I never thought that I would be strong enough to care for someone who was ill, but you showed me that with love all things are possible. With every bad day that we had…. there was 10 other great days that over shadowed them, so it was all worth it. I know that you are in heaven now & at peace, but I'll miss you so much. I hope that I made you as happy as you made me.
I will love you Always
Your Girl Trista
