G. Blackerby Obituary

Breckenridge-G.R. "Punk" Blackerby, 84, of Breckenridge died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 2PM at the First Christian Church with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Breckenridge Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Punk was born on July 17, 1924 in Woodson, Texas to Lester Franklin Blackerby and Hulda Mae Alexander Blackerby. He graduated from Woodson High School and married Marynell Hughes on June 24, 1949 at the First Christian Church in Breckenridge. He was a member of First Christian Church since 1953 having served as an Elder and Chairman of the Building Committee. Mr. Blackerby served his country in the Army during WWII. He was employed by RE Dye Manufacturing.

Survivors include daughter, Bonnie Rogers and husband Don of Midland, son, Paul Blackerby and wife Leslie of Breckenridge, sister-in-law, Martha Crenshaw and husband Don of Breckenridge, nephew, Cory Crenshaw and wife Shelle and Carly of Mingus, brothers, Frank Blackerby of Daingerfield and Wayne Blackerby of Breckenridge, grandchildren, Jason Blackerby and wife Melinda of Ft. Worth, Benjamin Blackerby of Bedford, Camille Barton and husband Ty of Dallas, Stephanie Fuentes and husband Larry of Midland, Kailyn Lowe and husband Wes of Big Lake, Scott Rogers of College Station, a great-grandson David Fuentes of Midland, and his caretaker Delores Peacock. He was preceded in death by his wife Marynell Blackerby on November 2, 2005, his parents Lester and Hulda Mae Blackerby, brothers Gorman Dewey Blackerby, Willard Dee Blackerby, and Arlee Newt Blackerby. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the First Christian Church or the Hendrick Hospital League House and can be left at the funeral home.
