James Sumrall Obituary

James Daniel (J.D.) Sumrall of Midland passed away on April 16, 2017 with his family at his bedside. The family will receive guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Services for J.D. will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Kelview Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Franklin, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon Kaye Sumrall, daughter Jayme Renee Awtry and her husband, Allan and their two boys Hayden James and Jackson Allan. Oldest daughter, Linda Diane Sumrall of Mexia. Middle daughter, Julie Eileen McGough of Dallas, and second Youngest Joyce Annette Wekesser of Dallas. One sister, Lunette Waltman and brother in law, Bill Waltman of Laurel, MS. J.D. was born on July 28, 1935 in Laurel, MS. to William Elijah and Minnie Sumrall. He was born and raised in Laurel and then moved to Texas in search of work. He always wanted to "Go West". He fell in love with Oil & Gas and made a living buying and rebuilding pumping units. He owned his own business and was a successful businessman. Some of his business experience took him all over the world. J.D. married the love of his life, Sharon Kaye Sims on April 17, 1970. They spent 47 years enjoying each other and the life they built together. They had a love like you dream of in movies. The kind that is hard to find, but once they found each other, they never let go. J.D. passed away one day short of that 47th wedding anniversary. J.D. was a devoted Christian and made Kelview Heights Baptist Church their home. J.D. enjoyed rebuilding antique radios, Westerns, John Wayne, and his grandchildren. He also loved animals and always had a dog to love and spoil. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
