Jerry Cochran Obituary

Doctor Jerry Lee Cochran passed away at his home on July 10, 2014. He was born in Ada, Oklahoma on August 31, 1947 to JB and Pauline Cochran. He graduated from Ada High School then went on to attend East Central University in Oklahoma. It was there, in his freshman year, that he met and fell in love with his "angel on earth" Mary Jane White. Four years after meeting, Jerry and Mary married on February 2, 1968. In that same year, Jerry went on to attend The University of Oklahoma Medical School and later, completed his orthopedic surgery residency at The University of Kansas, in Wichita. Jerry and Mary were blessed with two children, Erin Leigh and Ryan Hart. He moved his young family to Altus, Oklahoma in 1976 to begin practicing his specialty of Arthroscopic Reconstruction of the knee. In 1981, the Cochran family arrived in Midland, Texas where 'Doc' has practiced medicine and touched lives every day for the last 33 years. Jerry was a deeply devoted family man, blessed to have spent most of his life with his great love, Mary. Jerry and Mary built an extraordinary life together; traveling, establishing a career, and raising a family. He was extremely proud of his children and their many accomplishments. Later, his four grandchildren made him laugh on a daily basis and no one was more loved than 'Big Dog' or 'Papa.' Medicine was his passion. A skilled surgeon and a kind soul, he spent his entire career providing the most excellent care and concern to each and every one of his patients. Always quick to offer a hug or a word of encouragement, he brought joy and comfort to his patients as well as to his staff. Jerry was a one of a kind doctor and the medical profession was lucky to call him one of their own. A wood-worker, an avid reader, and a lover of fast cars, he was a unique and talented man. The world will deeply miss the bright, shining light that was Doc Cochran. To have been in his glow and to have felt his love, is an honor so many have been blessed to receive. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Glen Cochran, Sr., and his daughter, Erin Cochran. He will be cherished and immensely missed by his surviving family; his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Cochran; his son Ryan and daughter in law, Marcie Cochran of Austin, Texas; his sisters, Cynthia Bryant and her family of Hurst, Texas and wonderful twin, Judy Ruhland and her family of Hurst, Texas; his nephew 'brother' Glen Cochran Jr. and his family of Dallas, Texas; and his four beautiful grandchildren, Presley, Miller, and Juniper Cochran of Austin, Texas, and Olive Conrad of Oklahoma City. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 800 W Texas Ave, Midland, Texas 79701. The family suggests donations be made in Doctor Cochran's memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children online at www.shriners hospitalsforchildren.org/donate. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com.

I met Jerry on a fall afternoon in 1981.I had no idea how fortunate I was that he was on call at MMH. I first saw him 2 days after that motorcycle accident which left my right lower leg shattere. He iinformed me that due to my being over 25 and the severity of the damage I had a 25% chance of keeping the leg! The weeks stretched on and on, fhen ine day he came in with that bug grin if his and an XRay, " We have BONE GROWTH! ! ! ! He seemed happier than me. Shortly after that he flipped his plane at the local area airport. The next day at our appt he asked me how I was doing. I in turn asked him how he was feeling. Unflappable as always, " I don't need a doctor. LOL, I have never had a moment of pain or discomfort after he released me from his care. I talked wuth him many times after rhaat when he was indulging his woodworking. On occasion even back to his office for various ither afflictions. I will truly miss this great man, surgeon, all around great gyy.

I am very saddened to hear of Dr. Cochran. He was currently treating my 4 year old son for in-toeing. We drove 2 hrs from Lubbock just to see Dr. Cochran for the past 2 years. He was a delight to see and my son was always excited to get his stuffed animal from him at every visit. We will miss him greatly but know he is rejoicing with the angels. God Bless his family! He left a great legacy behind him.

I am heartbroken to have just learned of Dr. Cochran's passing. I was beyond blessed to be a patient of his, although I only saw him personally on 2 visits. He was the sweetest most genuine professional I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He was amazing at his job and I could tell he was just as amazing outside of work. He told me his passion was helping babies and he was so happy to hear that the Shriners took care of me when I was born with a club foot! Such a joy & he will be greatly missed!

Rest in Peace Dr. Jerry Cochran. You were a good man and helped so many. After being asked every day since I was 10 if I was your son I almost began to believe it would be easier to just say I was. Although he was no family relation to me that we could decipher, people just always assumed we were father-son so we often joked about it. He would sometime write correspondence to me and sign it "Uncle Jerry." Thank you for your benefit to mankind and your wit, intelligence and loyalty to your family and city. Mary and Ryan - I'm so sorry for your loss.

Jerry was one of the kindest friends I have ever known. He was a hunting partner who hunted just to get outdoors and enjoy a good book and a good cigar. I will never forget our time together my friend and brother.

Dr.Cochran was a doctor who elevated the medical profession in every way. He was not only a wonderful doctor but such a kind person. He treated both my husband and me for knee problems and recommended the physicians in Plano who eventually did replacement surgery on both of Reuben's knees. His concern for his patients was genuine and heartfelt. It always touched by heart to see him and Mary at church on Sundays. We have all been enriched by his presence in our lives and thank the Lord for all he did for so many people. The whole Cochran family will be in our prayers.

He was a man that warmed the spirits of everyone he met. His compassion for his patients and his love of medicine made him one of a rare breed. I will miss you, my friend.

I had never had a Dr that was as caring and showed how he cared about his patients as Dr. Cochran did. I don't know who will be taken care of his patients but I hope they will at least show half the caring as he did. You will be so missed by many. My prayers are with all his family during this time of saddness.

Jerry (and I call him Jerry even though I did not know him well) had a way of making you feel like you were a long lost friend. His exuberance and love of life was infectious! He took such good care of my mom many years ago, making sure she got the treatment and surgery she needed. He was a crazy, wonderful guy and his skill and spirit will be missed.

I am so saddened to loose such a wonderful friend and my orthopedic doctor. I will miss his wonderful sense of humor and his incredible personality and his highly developed skills as an orthopedic surgeon. There is not another doctor that I trust as much as I trusted him. I knew I was in good hands when he gave God the credit for healing my knee. I know God is saying "well done, my good and faithful servant" I will miss you Dr. Cochran
