Jesus Gonzales Obituary

Jesus Barton Gonzales
07/07/1934 - 02/14/2025
Jesus Barton Gonzales, 90, died peacefully in his sleep in his Midland, Texas, home on the morning of February 14, 2025.
Jesus was born to Rafael Gonzales and Candida Barton Gonzales on July 7, 1934, in Mission, Texas, where he was also raised and educated. He was one of seven siblings, including two who died in infancy. Jesus was married on March 2, 1955, to Sulema Padilla, who went on to become his beloved wife of 69 years.
Jesus will be forever remembered for his faith in the Lord and for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Almost any Friday night of the year throughout his children's adult lives, he could be found at the head of the table, surrounded by members of his large family laughing together in his home. He was active in the Catholic church throughout his life, including serving in the Knights of Columbus and the Cursillo movement. He was also a dedicated provider and hard worker. He did not retire until the age of 87 from his position as church sexton at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, where he had worked for 39 years.
Jesus is survived by his brother Ralph, brother Jorge, sister Anita, son Jesus Jr. and wife Cheryl, son David and wife Blanca, son Ruben and wife Connie, daughter Rita and husband Marty, daughter Anabell and husband Benny, daughter Joanne, son Michael and wife Cody, daughter Candida, 27 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces, who will all dearly miss him. He is preceded in death by his parents Rafael and Candida; siblings Juan, Jesus, and Anita; daughter Rosemary; and recently deceased wife, Sulema; he passed away just in time to spend Valentine's Day with her.
The viewing for Jesus will take place on Wednesday, February 19, from 1:00-9:00 p.m. at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. His funeral will be held on Thursday, February 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Funeral mass is under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel. Family messages and condolences may be emailed to: [email protected] or you can visit our website at lewallengarciapipkinfh.com.

What an amazing individual that I was blessed to have known as I grew up in Our Lady of Guadalupe. A very strong, God fearing man, Jesus was and I was blessed by his friendship he and Sulema had with my grandparents. He truly was a great husband, father, and a great Christian that showed love and compassion to his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you for always remembering my family and my name! You shared peace and happiness with all who came in contact with you. You raise a beautiful family! Thank you Jesus, until we gather again, enjoy heaven with your bride and watch over us all.

February 25, 2025

The entire Blake family from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church send our deepest condolences. Each of us had the utmost love & respect for Jesus. Many years of smiles with him within the kitchen area and the playground area as he watched to be sure, at that time, our young children were being kind to each other and playing safely.
Jesus was a lovely, lovely gentleman. He will be missed.
With much love,
The Mary T. & Jack E. Blake, Jr. family

Mr. Gonzales was one of the most loveable individuals that I have ever known. He always treated me like family since I was a young teenager. Many years later when I returned to Midland for a short while I had the opportunity to work with him at the Episcopal Church. It was an honor to spend a little over a year with him at work. We would have lengthy conversations and a few laughs. I thank God for meeting Mr. Gonzales and him being a part of my life in my younger years. It takes a village to raise kids and he was part of that village. He was a God loving man of faith and a great role model. Rest in Peace and say "hi" to my dad and Mrs. Gonzales.
