I went to high school with June, graduating one year behind her. I remember watching her in awe as she walked down the hallways. Both an athlete and a scholar, she also had an independent and free spirit, not following the treaded path of the majority. I remember her beautiful face, her long shiny hair, and her open laugh. I knew her in college, also, where she was a child of the 60s a flower child with a band of friends who loved her. Our friendship wrapped full-circle in recent years, where I knew June as a loving friend of my mother and of Mom's friends at First Christian Church. They watched over June and continually made sure that she knew she was loved. And June, a devoted friend, loved them back. She wrote Mom and me the loveliest notes, always worded beautifully. Though June went through some difficult times, her faith in God and her love for her church always shone through and radiated in conversation. My admiration of June only grew over the decades, and I will miss her. I am comforted that she and Mom have met on the other side.
