Lewis Chase Obituary

Lewis James "Jim" Chase, Jr. passed away peacefully in Midland on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Jim was born to Lewis James Chase, Sr. and Elizabeth "Bea" Johnson Chase, in Abilene, Texas on November 20, 1947.
Jim was an adorable little boy and an outstanding athlete. Jim led the Cooper Cougars baseball team to many victories and loved playing alongside his teammates. He went on to pitch for the Horned Frogs at Texas Christian University, on a full scholarship. While at TCU he met his lifelong friends, the Delta Tau Delta Brothers, including Rick, Rusty, Mike, Fauks, John Roy, Daryl among many others. They have all remained close to this day.
In 1972 Jim met and married his love and former wife, Vicki Verret Chase, with whom he shared two daughters, Ashley and Jennifer. Together they moved to Midland and made it their home for many years. Jim was active in the community, a member of First Presbyterian Church, and an avid fan of MHS basketball.
Jim is survived by Ashley and her husband Marcelo Molfino and grandson Jack Cooper Molfino, Jennifer Chase, Vicki Verret Chase, and wife Vicky Webb Chase, as well as his brother Mike Chase and wife Rose, nephew Jeff Chase and family, and many other friends and relatives.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Lewis and Bea, his nephew Brian Scott Chase, and other members of the Chase family whom he loved dearly.

I am sad to learn of Jim's death. We met in the 7th grade in Abilene and played football together along with many other sports through high school. I hung out at Jim's house and was always welcomed there by his parents, Lewis and Bea, and Jim's younger brother Mike. One fun memory from 7th grade is when Jim and I arranged to meet two girls for a "date" at the Metro Theater to see John Wayne in "North to Alaska. (for those old enough it was in an old Quonset Hut on Butternut). Jim's mother drove us but we didn't tell her that we were meeting girls there. The girls weren't that impressed with us but we thought we were studs. Rest in Peace old friend. Till we meet again!

I did not know until yesterday that Jimmy had passed away in February. This makes me very sad. I had known Jimmy since 2nd grade at Bowie Elem. in Abilene. He was so cute, and I had fun swiping his Cub Scout hat and running off with it at recess. He was obviously an outstanding athlete. I was a Bowie cheerleader, cheering for our team with Jimmy at quarterback, of course. And I remember so many summer league baseball games when he was the star pitcher. Jimmy will be missed - but we´ll see him again one day.

It is sad to hear that Jimmy has passed. He was my beloved cousin and almost like another brother. I was with him through his baseball from Little League through high school plus one of his games at TCU. He and Mike and my brother,David, spent so many hours, and years, playing ball in our yard. It is hard to lose him but great to know that he is once again with Lewis and Bea as well as Jim and Grace. I will carry fond memories of Jimmy and will see him again when that time comes.

I am Jimmy´s cousin, Linda, and grew up living across the street from him and his family in Abilene, Texas. I loved them all dearly and have wonderful memories of Jim growing up, especially the many, many nights watching him and my brother, David, playing baseball.
Our neighborhood kids could usually be found playing whatever sport was in season in one of our yards, building forts, or playing Hide and Seek or having homemade ice cream on summer nights. I would not take a million dollars for those wonderful growing up years in the 50´s and 60´s or for my wonderful cousins. Jimmy will always be alive in my heart.

My parents were best friends with Bea and Lewis and our families spent a lot of time together. They were like family. We went to church together. Jim was a groomsman at my wedding. So long ago and so many memories. Peace of the Lord be with you Jim.

Had some great times visiting with LJ. I can tell you he loved his family, and his sports. I was so glad the day he gave his life to the Lord. We will see him again.
