Lola Striggles Obituary

Lola Pearl Taylor Striggles age 79, passed away on August 7, 2024, at the Midland Medical Lodge in Midland, TX.
Lola Pearl was the youngest of seven children (5 boys and 2 girls) born to parents Mr. Alton Taylor and Mrs. Bertha B. Howze Taylor on May 11, 1945, in Waco, TX. She attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and George Washington Carver Junior and Senior High School through her junior year of high school. While in high school, she was involved in the Opali Dancers, Drill Team, and the Choir. She completed her senior year and graduated with honors from Allen High School in Asheville, North Carolina in 1963. Lola graduated from Midland College in 1996 with a degree in Nursing.
Lola's career included: Receptionist for Dr. W. B. D. Cooper Sr. at Cooper Memorial Clinic, working for ConocoPhillips Oil Company for over 20 years, Nurse at both Midland Memorial Hospital and Westwood Hospital, County Nurse at the Midland County Jail for 16 years, and a nurse at the Springboard Center, all in Midland, TX. She was also a substitute nurse for the Midland Independent School District. Upon retirement, she thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for the Foster Grandparents Program until her health failed in the fall of 2023.
Lola was preceded in death by husband John Evans Elridge Striggles, parents Mr. and Mrs. Alton Taylor, brothers Willie Alton Taylor, Homer Ray Taylor, twin brothers Byrd Windell Taylor, Bertrand Winfred Taylor, brother-in-law Rev. Billy S. Medlock, nephews Robert Dawson Cooper and Billy S. Medlock Jr., niece Harriette Cooper-Brown, and great-grand son Kanyon Reynolds.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Alta Striggles-Lee (Dawn), of Midland, TX and Geraline Drew of Montebello, CO. Grandson Malachi Lee of Midland, TX and Granddaughter Lauren Scalmanini (Lou) of Aurora, CO. One sister, Alta Ruth Cooper-Medlock formerly of Overton, TX, one brother, Dr. Joe Robert Taylor MD (Joan) of Pearland, TX, two sister-in-laws Odessa Taylor of Midland, TX, and Karen Taylor of Waco, TX, three great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 16 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jackie Warren Funeral Home located at 702 S. Terrell Midland, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 17 at 10:00 AM at Greater Ideal Baptist Church located at 411 S. Tyler Midland, Texas, Dr. George A. Bell, Pastor. A burial will be held at Resthaven North Memorial Park in Midland, Texas at 1:00 PM.

Lola was such a dear sweetheart of a friend to me thru our many years working for ConocoPhillips, singing with the Iva Boze community choir, and participating in many community and church activities. My greatest desire for her was to use her God given beautiful voice to make an album. I will never forget her smile, her quiet and sweet spirit and the enjoyment I had with many of her family members. May the peace of God and Lola´s precious memories gently rest in your hearts always.

I went to Midland College with Ms Lola and did not know of her passing until last night. She was a sweet lady with a beautiful voice and I loved to hear her sing. For her family and church family you have our prayers and condolences during this time. May God comfort and keep you.
