I live near Lackland, Kelly, and Randolph Air Force Bases in San Antonio. Everytime I see or hear a fighter jet overhead, it reminds me of the many fighter pilot heroes that I knew but especially my dear friend, Michael, with whom I worked for a few months at Langley AFB. I think that he especially loved flying because he loved being that much closer to God in the heavenly skies. Michael, I miss you! You will not be forgotten!!! Tony Segovia

During the early 1990s, I worked for and with Lt.Col. Mike Kaufman at Langley AFB, VA in the 1st Fighter Wing Inspections Office post-Desert Storm war operations. He was a warrior of and for God, defending the weak and fighting for the human rights of all mankind. Mike retired about a year before my time. He modeled for all a strong family man and a leader of men and women. He was one of those people who you knew would be successful at anything that felt strongly about. But his strength was his large group of friends; everyone he met, whether through work, fellow pilot, or a chance meeting would become a true friend for life. He wore his love of God and country on his sleeve. May God watch over him in Heaven and may God also watch over his earth family and friends. I feel that he faithfully earned both his pilot wings and his angel wings. I'm sure that he is God's helper, welcoming others through heaven's gates. RIP LtCol Mike Kaufman. Your friend, SMSgt (Ret) Tony Segovia of San Antonio, TX

Mike was a shining light and his ethics, love of family and friends was always evident in the manner in which he lived his life. May the God of peace and comfort hold you all in His arms during this difficult time.
