Patsy Ruth Horton, 96, of Midland, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 in Montgomery. She was born March 24, 1928 in Marion County to the late Lawrence and Alma (Ragland) Bramlett.
Patsy worked at The Ginnocchio Café in Marshall, TX where she met Jack Horton, a Western Union Lineman. He whistled at her and she always said she got even – she married him on September 20, 1947. While raising her four children, she babysat and sewed for the public. When her children began to finish high school, she went to work to help pay for college at Midland ISD School Food Service, where she would spend the next 30 years feeding the children of Midland. Schools where she worked include Edison, Milam, Bowie, Lee Freshman (Austin), Alamo and Abell. She finally retired at the age of 70.
The joy of her life was family and friends. At a young age, Patsy accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Moore's Chapel Methodist Church in Prospect, TX. She became a member of Asbury Methodist Church, where she kept the nursery, taught Sunday School and was the Methodist Youth Fellowship leader.
Patsy is survived by her four children, Terry Keith Wadlington and wife Patti, Brenda Ruth Horton, Jacqulyn Ann Owens and Nancy Sue Birkelbach and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Tyson Wadlington, Candace May and husband Jason, Nichole Shackleton and husband Gary, Jack Owens and Clark Owens; great-grandchildren, Lacey Letteman, Parker Leverett, Hayden Leverett, Blaine Leverett, London May, Mallory May, Garen Shackleton, Levi Shackleton and Cadyn Shackleton; great-great grandchild, Greydon Lettman; and sisters-in-law, Jan Bramlett and Sue Bramlett.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack William Horton; parents, Lawrence Hillard Bramlett and Alma May Ragland Bramlett; siblings, Sammie Tatum (Jack), Arnold Bramlett (Dorothy), Daisy Smitherman (Bob), Carl Bramlett, Mead Rex Bramlett, Holman Bramlett and Tony Daniel Bramlett; and son-in-law, Richard Owens.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 4-8 PM at Ellis Funeral Home, 4616 N. Big Spring St. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10 AM at Ellis Funeral Home officiated by Rob Fields, a lifelong friend. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
