Sheri Horton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holden Cremation & Funeral Service - Sparta on Feb. 17, 2026.
Sheri Horton, age 59, of Seymour, Missouri, passed peacefully at home surrounded by those who loved her most after a long battle with colon cancer.

Sheri was born on August 10, 1966, in Peoria, Illinois, to Joyce (Johnson) and Frank DeWitt. She graduated from Washington Community High School and later continued her education at Midstate College. On December 15, 1984, she married the love of her life, Richard Horton. Together they built a life centered on family, and unwavering love, and from that marriage were blessed with four children.

Sheri was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother, Nana, and Kitty. She knew no stranger - her home and heart were always open. Over the years, she became "Mom," "Nana," and "Kitty" not only to her own children and grandchildren, but to many of their friends as well. Her kindness, listening ear, and nurturing spirit made everyone feel like family.

Sheri spent much of her working career in the healthcare field, dedicating herself to caring for others. She especially cherished her many years with her Red Cross family, where she formed lasting friendships and found deep purpose in serving her community.

She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Joyce and Frank Dewitt; her sister, Kim Dewitt; her sister-in-law, Pat DeWitt; her in-laws, R.G. and Marie Horton; her brother- and sister-in-law, Larry and Cindy Horton; and her nephew, Robbie Lee Dewitt.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Richard Horton, of the home; her four children: Gerry (Deanna) Horton of East Peoria, Illinois; Rich (Angie) Horton of Havana, Illinois; Lacey (Spencer) Kanarr of Bourbon, Indiana; and Chelsea (Jake) Kuhn of Seymour, Missouri. She is also survived by her siblings, Frank (Bonnie) Dewitt of Republic, Missouri, and Kristi (Chris) Drinnin of Seymour, Missouri; 12 beloved grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends and extended family members who loved her dearly.

Sheri's legacy is one of love, compassion, strength, and fierce devotion to her family. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the lives she touched and the family she so beautifully built.

A family directed memorial service will be held on March 7th from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 605 W. Mack Rd., Seymour, Missouri 65746.

My condolences to the family. I met her in the Oncology Infusion Center and she was always so pleasant. God bless all of you and I will continue to pray for your family as I remember you. She was a doll. I am so sorry for your loss....
