Ronald Mixer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holden Cremation & Funeral Service - Sparta on Mar. 16, 2026.
Ronald Lee "Ron" Mixer, 71, passed away on February 25, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on December 29, 1954, in Quincy, Illinois, to Harold Lee Mixer and Anna Mae Mixer, both of whom preceded him in death.

Ron grew up in the Quincy area and graduated from Payson-Seymour High School in 1973. During his youth, he spent many weekends on the family farm, where he developed a lifelong love of the woods and the outdoors.

Following high school, Ron worked for several years in the insurance industry before discovering his true calling in construction. His talent and determination led him to become an accomplished cement mason and general contractor. Over the years, he owned and operated several construction businesses in Quincy, Illinois, and Springfield, Missouri. His work eventually expanded beyond Missouri and Illinois, leading crews on projects in Arkansas, Texas, and New Mexico. Ron was widely respected for his craftsmanship, work ethic, and ability to build both structures and lasting relationships.

Ron had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed hunting, boating, riding his motorcycle, gardening, tending to his chickens, and playing his beloved guitar. He was known for his friendly personality, creative spirit, and passionate approach to life.

Ron experienced profound loss just days before his passing with the death of his beloved wife, Shelly Mixer, who passed away on February 23, 2026. The two shared a life built on love, family, and partnership.

He is survived by his daughter, Shay Clamme, and son-in-law, Scott Clamme (Hartford City, IN); his stepdaughter, Brandi LaRance, and stepson-in-law, John LaRance (Brandon West, MO); his sister, Vickie Owen, and brother-in-law, Bill Owen (Quincy, IL); and his brother, Steve Mixer, and sister-in-law, Sheila Mixer. Ron was a proud grandfather to Kaylin Clamme, Ryne Clamme, Addison Clamme, Natalya LaRance, Teagan LaRance, and Elizabeth LaRance. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Saunsi.

Ron will be remembered as a friendly, creative, and passionate man who loved his family deeply and found joy in hard work, the outdoors, and the music he played on his guitar. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
