Patricia Ann "Pat" Gavisk

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Gavisk, known affectionately to friends and family as Pat, who left us peacefully in her sleep on the morning of March 14, 2026, while in the company of her beloved husband, Jerry Gavisk.

Jerry and Pat first met when Jerry asked Pat to join him for ice cream. That simple invitation eventually led to a beautiful 30-year marriage.

Pat was born on January 19, 1946, in California to Ishmael and Helen Blankenship. As young parents, they soon found it difficult to care for Pat and her older sister Barbara.

Around this same time, Joe and Marjorie (Blankenship) Pitts of Ava, Missouri were facing their own hardships. Joe contracted mumps, and his condition worsened, prompting a minister to marry Joe and Marjorie so that she could care for him. Unfortunately, the effects of the illness left them unable to have children of their own.

Ishmael passed away due to an illness shortly after Pat's birth. In wake of his passing, Joe and Marjorie, who was Ishmael's sister, contacted Helen and when Pat was a few months old, she and Barbara were lovingly adopted by them.

Pat was raised in Ava, where she shared many childhood memories with her sister, Barbara. She attended Ava High School and graduated with the Class of 1964.

Pat's passion for helping others led her to pursue a career in nursing. However, following a life changing event, she chose to pursue education instead and enrolled at Missouri State University, where she earned her degree in education. Soon after graduation, she began her long and fulfilling career at Mt. Vernon, Missouri. As a Physical Education and Biology teacher, Pat touched the lives of countless students. They quickly learned, you never forget your gym clothes. She also proudly served as the coach for the Mt. Vernon Dance Team, where her leadership, mentorship, and support helped guide many young ladies.

Always committed to learning, Pat continued her education at Drury University, earning her master's degree. She inspired young minds throughout her career until her retirement, leaving behind a legacy of passion, knowledge, and dedication to the education of others.

The most important thing to Pat was family. She welcomed her first son, Joe, in 1967, followed by her second son, David, in 1973. Pat was a proud and committed military mom, supporting Joe as he served in the Army and David in the Navy. But there was no greater love in Pat's heart than the love she had for her grandchildren: Hannah, Emma, Chloe, Graiden, Ashlyn, Cody, & Taylor. They were her joy, her pride, and the center of her world.

During her retirement, Pat found a new passion in contributing to the life of her church. She poured herself into supporting her church's activities, providing help in every possible way. One funny story that many might not know is that Pat took on the role of the church's IT manager, keeping the computer systems up and running, ensuring that everything stayed connected.

Her advanced technical skills, often hidden behind her nurturing nature, were just one of the many special ways she helped others.

Pat is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joe and Marjorie, and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Hawkins. She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; her sister, Barbara; her son Joe and his wife, Jana; her son David and his wife, Beth; her stepsons Patrick and his wife, Tracy, and David and his wife, Melanie; and her cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, Chloe, Graiden, Ashlyn, Cody, & Taylor. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who were fortunate to have been part of her life.
