Danette Mixer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home on Feb. 20, 2026.
JEFFERSON - Danette Kay Mixer, 55, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 19, 1970 in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of Daniel Byron and Kay Alice (Beaver) Mixer and graduated from Ashtabula High School in the class of 1988.

She worked for Mohawk paper then attended Kent State University in Ashtabula where she received her Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. She then worked for Core Civic at the prison in Conneaut and most recently as a Domestic Violence Advocate for Homesafe.

Known as "George" or "Georgie" to many of her closest friends, she had a huge heart, a big smile, loved people, and would help anyone she could. An amazing partner to her wife, Bette Donahue, she cared for her extensively during several serious medical issues, including the loss of her leg. She was especially close to her dog Izzy, enjoyed boating in Pennsylvania when she had the opportunity, and was a huge Cleveland Browns fan, cheering them on through their many letdowns. The little things in life always meant a lot to her, including getting to enjoy a meal of her favorite Mexican dishes whenever she had the chance, and getting pumped up whenever she was listening to her favorite "Techno" tunes.

Her survivors include her wife, Bette Donahue, whom she had been together with for 25 years; one brother, James D. (Ginger) Mixer of Bloomington, IL; and her nephew and nieces, Brandon, Kailey, and Ashlyne.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Kimberly Ann Mixer in infancy.

Visitation will be held from 5-6:30PM with a service to follow at 6:30PM on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Rev. John Werner of the United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be at 11AM Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

Due to her love of animals, contributions in her memory may be made to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Road, Ashtabula, OH 44004. Online obituary and condolences at www.ducro.com
