Raylene Smith Obituary

Raylene O. Smith, 76, of Midland went to her heavenly home on December 2, 2008.

Raylene was born March 13, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia to Charles and Elna O'Donnell. She was the oldest of seven children and graduated from Odessa High School.

On November 27, 1949 she married Dean Smith and they have been residents of Midland since 1952. Raylene worked for Julian-Gold, Swartz, Papillon, and the City of Midland Parks & Recreation Department. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Heritage Study Club, Midland Opera Guild, Midland Symphony & Guild, and Green Tree Ladies Association. She enjoyed interior decorating, gardening, sewing, homemaking, and traveling.

Raylene is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dean Smith; two daughters, Nancy Burney and her husband Joe of Austin, TX and Sheri Brockett of Midland; two sons, Greg Smith and his wife Pam of Atlanta, GA. and Kyle Smith and his wife Paige of Ft. Worth, TX; mother, Elna O'Donnell of Lewisville, TX. Her son Kelly Smith of Coahoma, TX preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, December 5, 2008 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Midland with Dr. Gary Dyer and Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and her brothers and sisters.

Her husband and children would especially like to thank the wonderful physicians and nursing staff of UT Southwestern Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas, TX. We are even more thankful for the untold number of prayers for Raylene and our family during this time.

The family suggest memorials be directed to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201 in honor of Raylene Smith.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com

Raylene was one of the dearest friends I have ever known in the 57 years I have known her. She was a christian who knew our GOD and I know she is with him today and we here do not matter except for our trials. I will miss her very much, GOD bless her family at this time of sorrow.
