Roger Stephenson Obituary

Roger L. Stephenson
11/07/1934 - 08/19/2024
Roger L Stephenson, age 89, died on August 19, 2024 in Eastland, Texas.

Roger was born on November 7, 1934 in Prairie Grove, Texas to Malcom Gordon Stephenson and Pauline Garner Stephenson.

He grew up in Everman, Texas where he graduated from Everman High School. After graduation he attended Henderson County Jr. College and Arlington State (UTA), where he played basketball.

Roger was an Army veteran. He served at the Presidio in San Francisco, California – where he also played on the Army basketball team.

Roger moved to Midland in 1957 where he started a lifetime career as a petroleum landman with several major companies and ultimately as an independent landman and founder of Stephenson Oil and Gas, Inc.

In 1963 Roger married Sandy Hale Stephenson and they were happily married until her death in 2014. They moved to Eastland in 1983 and were members of the First Christian Church.

The good Lord blessed Roger again when he attended his 64th high school reunion where he re-acquainted with the second love of his life Lynda Bauer Field. They married on December 10, 2016 and they traveled and played like kids for several years.

Roger was the father of three sons. Brad Stephenson and wife Mindy of Eastland, son Britt Stephenson and wife Christie of Kingsland, Texas and Kyle Stephenson who preceded his Dad.

Roger was blessed with seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren all of whom he loved and adored.

As an additional blessing, Roger developed great relationships with Lynda's children, Nancy Floring, Janet Field, Roger Field and Frank Field, and their ten grandchildren and their numerous great grandchildren.

Roger will be buried at the Eastland Cemetery after a brief service at Edwards Funeral Home on Wednesday August 21, at 1:00, with long-time friend Judge Jim Wright officiating.

The family wishes to thank the special workers at The Woodlands Assisted Living Center, Solaris Hospice and Dr. Robert Deluca for their compassion and caring over the last 2 weeks.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the First Christian Church of Eastland, Texas at 215 S Lamar Street, Eastland, Texas 76448

A special moment shared with Roger is when he and Lynda were present at my engagement to Frank Field. We were in Las Vegas at the Bellagio with the fountains erupting. It was as an intimate moment share between only me, Frank, Lynda and Roger. They made the trip to show their support. I love Roger very much and had the blessing of saying goodbye!
