Ronald Erwin Obituary

Ronald Erwin was born to C.J. Erwin and Violet May Dooley Erwin in 1934. He was born at home in an army house in Nolan County. He attended school in Odessa, Texas and played football for the Broncos. This led him to be the first member of his family to attend college. He attended Texas Western College on a football scholarship. He met his future wife, Jeanne Jackson, at the swimming pool in his freshman year in college. They dated for 3 years and got married when they graduated. They were married 63 years when he passed away. He passed away a week shy of his 87th birthday. They had three sons of whom he was very proud, Jack Erwin and wife LaVonda, Chet Erwin and wife Lisa, and Doug Erwin and wife Christy. Their sons are all in the oil business today. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Gerald Erwin and his wife Myrtle Erwin, and his sister Mary Lee Erwin Presley and her husband Clark Presley. Ron was on the first coaching staff at Coronado High School in El Paso. He stayed there 10 years and then moved to East Texas. He coached the Quitman Bulldogs for 11 years and won their first district championship ever. After his sons graduated and were in college, he decided that it was time to get a better paying job. He moved to Midland and went to work for Dwayne Hamilton and eventually went out on his own with the Pecos Gas Company. He was a member of the Fellowship class and later the Partners class at First United Methodist Church. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Hannah Erwin Briggs and husband Alex Briggs, Luke Erwin, Andrew Erwin and wife Nicole, Chris Erwin, Hali Carson, and McKenzie Cole. He had three great grandchildren, Charlee Briggs, Harper Briggs and Jackson Erwin and numerous nieces and nephews. Rest easy, Ron, you've earned it. Memorial service for family and close friends will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Ron was my immedite operations manager when first went to work for Hanover in 1990 and he was a good one, fair but firm. Beside me, Ron had the daunting task of managing McGhan, Chet and Bradford (along with several others) all at the same time. Ron was quite knowledgable of the "West Texas" way of doing business and with this experience and "can do attitude," helped get Hanover on the map in a big way. It was an honor working for you Ron.
