Catherine V. Mateer

Catherine V. Mateer, age 86, of Forest Hill, MD passed away on August 1, 2018 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Bolair, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Jacob Archibald and Bella Emily (Given) Starcher and wife of the late, Cecil George Mateer. After graduating from High School, she began working as an Administrative Assistant at the Materiel Testing Directorate, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. She retired from APG as a budget analyst on 29 June 1994. Mrs. Mateer was an avid traveler, gardener, baker and enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and quilting. In the later years of her life she developed a love for painting and knitting. She was a long term member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and volunteered for numerous events. Mrs. Mateer is survived by her daughter, Cindy Clinton of Ellicott City; son in law, John B. Ruhl of Forest Hill; two grandchildren, John B. Ruhl, Jr. and Charlotte E. Ruhl; and step-son James S. Mateer. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherrie Ruhl. Visitation will be held under the caring guidance of the family owned and operated McComas Funeral Home, Bel Air, MD on Friday, August 10, 2018, from 3-7pm. Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 11, at 10am, with Rev. Harold L. Hubble officiating. Interment will take place at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
