Russell Cornell Obituary

Russell Bernard Cornell, 91 died Feb. 23, 2010. Services at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal. Burial will be in Hawthorne, N.Y. Mr. Cornell was born Jan. 2, 1919 in New York, survived by wife of 60 years, Mary Wilson from Hope, Arkansas; daughter Julia C. (James R) Behrens, Hannibal, two grandchildren James C. Behrens of los Angeles, and Katherine E. Behrens of Dallas. Graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. in 1937, and received a B.S. in Mining Engineering from Lafayette College, Easton, PA in 1941. He was a mining engineer for Braden Cooper Co. in Chile, then worked as a mining engineer for St. Joseph Lead Co. in Argentina. He then returned to the United States to begin a 38 year career with Mobile Oil Co., retiring in 1983. Russ was a Regional Geophysicist for Mobile Oil Co., in Midland Texas from 1950-1972. He was a member of several professional organizations. Mr. and Mrs. Cornell were members of the Dallas Watercolor Society and FANA, an International Antique Fan Collecting Assoc. They have enjoyed traveling and watercolor painting during their retirement years. Memorials to Hannibal First Presbyterian Church, care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, 2619 St. Mary's Ave., Hannibal, MO 63401.
