Shane Rountree Obituary

Shane left this world to join his mother, father and brother in Heaven on Sunday, January 14, 2007. Shane was born in Midland on October 24, 1960 to E.B. and Neda Rountree. A native Midlander, Shane was known to all as a very special friend, mentor, father and husband. Shane put his family, friends and customers first and foremost. He did many things he never expected to be rewarded for, just knowing he was helping someone in need, whether it be with their vehicles, their personal needs, or someone to lean on, was reward enough for him. He was always there.

Shane's sense of humor was like none other, typically absorbing a conversation until the opportunity allowed him to share his unique perspective on the situation that would always end in laughter (typically his own). His culinary skills had been perfected over the years in many backyards in Midland, at the expense of those that loved him the most. He finally perfected the brisket (which started out as dry as his sense of humor but will forever be remembered as a work of art.)

Everyone who knew Shane knew of his absolute love of the Dallas Cowboys. From the flag he flew outside of his home on game days, to the stars on his truck, to his clothing and his Dallas Cowboy tribute room. Shane was the biggest Cowboy fan in the State of Texas, and quite possible the world.

Shane married Deidra (Dedi) Lyn Northcutt on July 25, 1997. The two had been inseparable since. Shane's pride and joy were his children, Sacie Shae Rountree, Michael Todd Korthauer and Jami Lyn Korthauer. Shane's finest moments in his life were watching each of his children walk across the stage at their graduations in 2004,2 005 and 2006.

Shane had an extraordinary group of friends he always considered as an extended family. They always influenced his perspective on life for which he was thankful.

Shane leaves behind brother's Kyle Rountree of Lake Charles, LA; Rex Rountree of Midland and a sister Karen (Susie) Jones of San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his mother & father, Neda and E.B. "Stumpy" Rountree and brother, Mike Rountree.

Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 18, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Pipkin Funeral Home in Midland. In special honor of Shane and America's team, Dedi and the family request those wishing to attend wear Dallas Cowboys attire. Even the minister has agreed to abide by this request.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to either the American Heart Association or the Shane Rountree Memorial Fund. To donate to the Memorial Fund contact Michelle Woodward at Western National Bank.

Services are under the direction of Pipkin Funeral Home. Family messages and condolences may be emailed to [email protected].

My prayers are with you in your time of grief. I am a good friend of the Rountree family and have not been in touch for a very long time. If you could help me to reach Rex, I am sure that Shane would be happy to see us together as freinds again. I would love to be in touch with the Rountree family after many years away from Midland and I think Rex would be happy to hear from me. Thank You and many Prayers out to you and your family in this time of sorrow

I was an aquaintence of Shane. I doubt that he would remember me if he were to see me, but I remember him. Tall, muscular in build, and long blond hair. I knew him through a group of mutual friends who ran together during the mid to late eighties. I mostly saw him when the group would get together for parties. Every time I saw him, he always had a smile on his face. Always a happy person. It is good to know that he maintained this aspect of his personality throughout his lifetime. The world will be a lesser place without him. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I am certain that he will be missed.
