Sue Brannon Obituary

Sue Ann Reid Brannon
11/09/1937 - 09/05/2024
Sue Ann Reid Brannon left this earth peacefully, quickly, & gracefully to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, beloved husband, & son on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Her two children were by her side in the hospital. She was never in pain or suffered which was a blessing.
Sue lived a beautiful Godly life.
Sue was born November 9, 1937 weighing in at a mere 3 lbs. 3 oz, to Clarence Aldoph "Dusty" and Mable Miller Reid. God had big plans for such a tiny baby! She grew up in Waco, Texas graduating from Waco High School in 1955 as a scholar, cheerleader, & president of the Speech & Debate Team. She attended Baylor University majoring in drama & television.
On November 9, 1955, she married the love of her life, Edward Carroll Brannon. Together they made their home in Waco, Texas with Ed building homes & developing land. They moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1957 where Ed was an architect. Sue studied Interior design at University of Colorado in Boulder and decorated most of the homes Ed built.
They moved to Midland, Texas in 1958 where they called home. Ed & Sue were a great team designing, building & decorating many beautiful homes in Midland. Ed also built the 868 Storage Units on the Loop and Sue managed them until her passing. They both were very involved in church, family, and politics.
Together, they had three children, Edward Reid, Bradley Wilson, and Sherri Kay. Many family vacations were shared and they all loved family time with special friends in Leakey, Texas where Sue & Ed had a home and numerous dear friends. They also traveled the US & Europe making lasting friendships with other home builders through General Electric.
Sue & Ed lost their middle child, Brad, in a tragic car accident on November 8, 1980 - the day before Sue's 43rd birthday and their 25th wedding anniversary. Their faith in God and a strong marriage sustained them during this time & they always gave God the glory.
Sue became very involved in the Republican Party as their children got older and together they worked to help candidates get elected. Sue became the first woman chair to the Midland County Republican Party in 2000 and held the position until she resigned in 2011.
She was named the "Yellow Rose of Texas" & honored by the Texas House & Senate at the Capitol in Austin on April 19, 2013 naming it "Sue Brannon Day". Sue & Ed attended many Gubernatorial & Presidential Inaugurations as well as numerous Christmas Parties at the White House in Washington DC. She was appointed to the CSEC committee in Austin in 2009 by Lt. Governor David Dewhurst & remained on the board until her passing.
Sue was a very proud 6th generation Texan and was a 50+ year member of the Aaron Estes Chapter Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was a member of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ, Midland County Republican Women serving as President & many other capacities on the Board, the Midland Historical Society, and the Haley Memorial Library.
Sue was preceded in death by her best friend & husband, Ed; her parents, Dusty & Mabel Reid, her son, Brad, and son-in-law, Eddy Merket.
She is survived by her two children, son, Edward Reid Brannnon of Midland; daughter, Sherri Kay Brannon Merket & fiance Cameron Walker of Midland, her grandson, Garrett Bradley Merket & wife Maggie & great grandsons, Crawford, Bowen, & Jaxon of Fort Worth, and granddaughter, Amber Kay Holt & husband Chase of Midland, her sister, Kay Reid Ritch & husband, Kelly of Huntsville, Texas, niece, Kim Ritch McGee, nephew, Ritchie Ritch, and many, many lifelong dear friends!
Sue loved her God, her family, Texas and the United States of America. She was well-known for her famous quote, "It's a Great Day to be a Republican in Midland, Texas" ... now she is saying, "It's a Great Day to be a Christian in Heaven!"
Graveside services to celebrate her life will be Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11:00 am with Tim Baugh officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle McGraw, Kyle Cox, Mark Darville, Dave Worland, Paul Peterson & Darrell Hart.
According to Sue's wishes, memorials may be directed on her behalf to The Hillander School 1600 W. Wadley Midland, TX 79705 or Leakey EMS PO Box 803 Leakey TX 78873.
Arrangements are under the direction of Andrews Cargill Funeral Home.
