Alice Tarankus Obituary

MOUNT CARMEL — Alice Tarankus, 85, of 238 S. Poplar St., died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Williamsport Hospital.

Born in Mount Carmel on July 10, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Napoleon and Stella (Mileski) Stabinski.

Alice was educated in Our Mother of Consolation School.

She spent some time in New Jersey, but returned to Mount Carmel in 1940, after the death of her mother, to raise her brothers and sisters. She then returned to New Jersey, where she resided until she and her late husband retired and returned to Mount Carmel.

She was married on Dec. 21, 1947, in the Church of Annunciation in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Joseph Tarankus, who pdied on Oct. 26, 1999.

Alice was a member of the former Holy Cross Church, now Divine Redeemer church.

She was a very active member of the Polish Cultural Club.

She was very gifted at making afghans, scarves, hats, booties, jewelry and ceramics, which she distributed freely to her family and friends. She loved to bake and garden. If you knew Alice, you had something she had made.

She is survived by a sister, Irene Wilk of Lake Panasoffke, Fla.; a brother, Edward Stabinski of Belleville, N.J., and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Cecelia Kogut and Theresa Williams, and a brother, Joseph Stabinski.

TARANKUS — Alice Tarankus, 85, of 238 S. Poplar St., Mount Carmel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Divine Redeemer Church, 300 W. Avenue, Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Robert Yohe officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mount Carmel Township. Viewing will be held from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 9 a.m., at C.J.
