Brenda Jarrell Goodnight, 79, of Sneads Ferry, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022. She was born Jan. 17, 1943, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Earlie and Lois Jarrell. Brenda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was happily married and had a very close-knit family, which included her extended family. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to her. She lived a simple life and enjoyed time spent with her family. There was never a shortage of special occasions to celebrate. Her favorite times were spent with her daughters and their husbands, along with the granddaughters, cooking, eating, and enjoying each other's company. Brenda loved the beach, and she loved listening to Elvis. She had a colorful personality, and you never had to wonder what she was thinking. She adored her family and lived a full and blessed life. Although she traveled and lived in many cities and states, she always felt as though Mount Airy was still her home. She is survived by her husband, James Goodnight of the home; two daughters, Lynn Goodnight Wright (Tom) and Kim Goodnight Feith (Joe); two granddaughters, Caraline Wright and Courtney Wright; a sister, Loretta Jarrell Martin (Jim and family); and a brother, Roger Jarrell (Carol and family). A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at 12:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Ivy Green Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit at Calvary Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401; or a local animal shelter.
