Devin Leon Davis, 27, of Mount Airy, passed away Oct. 4, 2021. Born Dec. 20, 1993, in Arlington, Virginia, he was the son of Darrin Davis and Lisa Lawhorne. Devin leaves behind to cherish his memory his parents; his stepmother, Mindy Davis; two sisters, Stephanie Lawhorne Senter, Tamara Davis; a nephew, Grayson Matthew Senter; the love of his life, Brittany Nicole "Nikki" Sanchez-Ashburn; an uncle and aunt, Frank and Marie Davis. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dwight and Arlene Davis, Glenn and Nancy Lawhorne; brother, Zachary Louis Lawhorne; cousin, Crystal Vincent; Uncle Johnny "Boo"; and Aunt Joan Lawhorne Billinger. Devin attended Surry County Schools and was a 2012 graduate of East Surry High School. His high school years were spent playing basketball and making friends. After graduating, he attended Surry Community College and earned an Associate of Arts degree and was a proud member of the National Honor Society. At the time of his death, he was employed at Mariner Finance as a loan officer. On his days off, he enjoyed outdoor activities and was quite the athlete. He loved frisbee golf, golfing, going to Carowinds, and tubing on the lake with his family and friends. Devin met and overcame challenges along the way. He fought them with strength and positivity, striving to always be his best, no matter what. Every day, Devin read his inspirational quotes of the day and then forwarded them to his family and friends. He loved his family, and was his nephew, Grayson's, number one fan. He enjoyed spending time with them as frequently as he could. Over the past few years, Devin demonstrated his extraordinary love and compassion by caring for his mother during her health struggles and was her ardent supporter. He found great joy in surprising her with little gifts and thoughtful gestures. Devin also enjoyed helping transport rescue dogs with his mother and watching football games with his dad and the ensuing rivalry over "his" Redskins and his Dad's Cowboys. His endearing spirit, larger-than-life heart, easy manner and smile will be forever missed. He never met a stranger. "Mommy's Golden Child." A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gerald Jones will be officiating. Cox-Needham is serving the Davis family.
