Duke Collins Obituary

Mr. Duke Collins, Sr., 78, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday afternoon, June 22, 2015, at LewisGale Hospital in Pulaski, VA. Mr. Collins was born June 18, 1937, in Surry County, one of five children born to the late Jesse Willard and Lillie Gray Boyd Collins. Duke was the owner and operator of Foothills Furniture for many years. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Collins of Elkin, Cathy and Del Wilkes of Columbia, SC, and Steve Jenkins of Mount Airy; a son, Duke Collins, Jr. of Mount Airy; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Ronald Beamer of Mount Airy; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Jane Collins and David and Rhonda Collins, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Bowman Collins; a daughter, Cindy Collins Jenkins; two sons, Chris Collins and Randy Collins; and a brother, Roy Collins. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tom Delph officiating. Interment will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
