Grady Edward "Eddie" Johnson, age 82, of Mount Airy, passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation in Mount Airy. Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 21, 1941, in Surry County to the late Grady Elzavan and Margaret Elizabeth McHone Johnson. Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Mr. Johnson was a member of Dobson Church of Christ, tobacco farmer, and was the owner and operator of Texaco Oil Company along with several convenience stores in Mount Airy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Carol Lee "Cookie" Stewart Johnson; one son daughter-in-law, Michael Stewart Johnson and Beth Hamblin; daughter-in-law, Christy Johnson; five grandchildren, Levi Johnson, Melinda Mosley and Nicky, Brittany Huff and Nick, Beth Hicks and R.J. Mears, Sherrie Gross and Bubba; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Patsy Johnson Amburn; a sister-in-law, Glenda Stewart Hunter; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Mark Edward Johnson; a sister, Stella Johnson Hawks; and a brother, Billy Gray Johnson. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Pastor Steve Johnson and Pastor Scott Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Westside Baptist Church, 107 Spring Creek Trial, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or Dobson Church of Christ, 165 Dobson Church of Christ Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
