CLAUDEVILLE, VA — Mr. Harold Edwin Slate, 73, of Claudville, VA, passed away Friday night, March 16, 2018, at his home. Mr. Slate was born March 26, 1944, in Patrick County, VA, the youngest of five children born to the late Murray Owen and Etta Lucy Anderson Slate. Harold retired from DuPont with more than 30 years of service and was a restaurant owner for 20 years. He was a longtime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Susan Case Cox Slate of the home; his children, Harold Edwin "Chip" Slate, II and Christina Leventis Slate of Stuart, VA, Jesse Montgomery Slate of Claudville, VA, SGT (Ret) Ryan A. Cox of Concord, Lori Elizabeth Edwards of Westfield, and SGT (Ret) Kevin L. and Brandy W. Cox of Dothan, AL; three grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth Edwards, Matthew Neil Edwards, and Harold Edwin "Harry" Slate, III; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Slate was preceded in death by three sisters, Mickey Slate Coleman, Katie Slate Spears, and Eleanor Slate Blackman; and a brother, Burton Merritt Slate. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Barry Clement and the Rev. Rickey Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 until 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital Fund, 59 Bee Street, MSC 201, Charleston, SC 29425. Even though Harold and I had not seen each other for many many many years I still found myself thinking of him from time to time. I would think of how would be to meet him sometime so we could see how we had change in the last 50 years.I just found out this month February 2019 that he had passed away. So sorry to hear about that.

We are so sorry for your loss. We so much enjoyed working with Harold on the Blue Ridge Parkway as well as at the restaurant. He will be missed.
