MOUNT AIRY — Mr. James Vance Goad Sr., a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, 82, of Mount Airy, husband of Mrs. Carolyn Key Goad, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Surry County to the late George and Dora Sutphin Goad. Mr. Goad was a retired car dealer and was a member of Westside Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn K. Goad of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jamie Goad and Mitzi of Mount Airy; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Johnson and David of White Plains, Sandra Smith and Bob of Greensboro, and Terri Hayes of Atlanta, Georgia; two stepsons, David Michael Cooke of Mount Airy and Douglas Eugene Cooke of Maryville, Kentucky; six grandchildren and spouses, David Brandon Johnson and Tedisue of Mount Airy, Dustin Michael Johnson of Mount Airy, Shannon Cooke Whitt and Ryan of King, Brittany Cooke of Mount Airy, Adrianna Culler of Mount Airy and Miriam Culler of Mount Airy, Preston Hayes and Laura Hayes, both of Atlanta, Georgia; three great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Goldie Vogler and Earl of Pfafftown; three brothers and sister-in-law, George Goad and Mary of Mount Airy, Ray Goad of Mount Airy and Glenn Goad of Jonesville; and a very "special poodle," Huey. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goad was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Haley, Virgie Pardue, Ruby Jackson; and two brothers, Willie Goad and Ralph Goad. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Steve Johnson. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. Full military rites will be conducted at the gracveside by The Memorial Honor Guard VFW Post 2019 and VFW Post 9436. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Moody Funeral Home.
