Jennie Strickland

Mrs. Jennie Bell Strickland passed away on Saturday morning, April 15, 2017, at Twelve Oaks Senior Living Community in Mount Airy, North Carolina, while surrounded by family members. She was born on February 24, 1922, to Jim and LoLene Hughes King in Surry County, N.C. Mrs. Strickland is survived by her husband of 77 years, Elder James R. Strickland; and nine of their ten children: Arlene Halyard of Marietta, Georgia, Wilna Wilkerson of St. Leonard, Maryland, Samuel Lawrence Strickland of Winston-Salem, N.C., Ora Lea Strickland of Weston, Florida, Myranda Strickland of Silver Spring, Maryland, Eric Strickland of Bouie, Maryland, Maricia Parks of Hope Mills, N.C., Phyllis Williams of Bellaire, Maryland and Sedalia Strickland-Horton of Pleasant Garden, N.C.. She is also survived by one brother Elbert King of Ararat, Virginia, and one sister, Priscilla King Allen of Mount Airy; as well as by 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Strickland is also known as Mother Strickland to her church community. She retired from Perry Manufacturing Company and was a loving mother, a pastor's wife for more than 60 years, and an involved community and church leader that was instrumental in helping those in need. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 1909 N. Main Street, Mount Airy, NC. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Dr. T.W. Samuels will be the eulogist and burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens, Mount Airy, NC. Family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. April 21, 2017, at Kings Mountain View Progressive Primitive Baptist Church, 1020 Shuff Road, Westfield, NC. Spencer Funeral Directors are in charge of all services and arrangements.
